New Apple TV Announced

Along with the new iPod Touch, the Shuffle and the Nano, Apple has also announced an update to Apple TV which now ends up being lot cheaper than its predecessors.

The brand new Apple TV is capable of streaming HD movies (720p) and TV shows that can be purchased from Apple's iTunes snd Netflix. The first generation Apple TV which hasn't actually been a runaway success was priced at $299. The new one however is way cheaper at US$99. Apple has also tied up with content providers ABC and Fox and is already inking deals with other content providers for more content.

While not an international product like the other new launches today, Apple did give considerable weightage to Apple TV over the course of the event clearly indicating its intention to make a success out of it this time round. Whether they are able to do that is something that is yet to be seen.
